Freecom
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/index.php? - Forum covering all aspects of
Audio Visual equipment, much in depth discussion and lots of really detailed
advice and guidance - definitely for the apprentice or full-blooded anorak;
probably not for the relative beginner or newbie.
http://www.avforums.com/forums/index.php - an excellently organised, and
well-used, Forum which covers audio visual aspects in great detail, but possibly
in a more-accessible-for-the-average-user way than the aforementioned AVS
Forum.
http://gbpvr.com/ - A site covring everything to do with GB-PVR - a first
class media centre application which is "donationware" - in other
words, free to use but make a donation if you are impressed (you probably
will be). Excellent for users of Freecom's DVB-T stick and similar products.
Also has it's own Forum, which can be found at http://forums.gbpvr.com/
http://mediagate.pbwiki.com/MG35Firmware - a Wiki page dedicated to the Mediagate
MG35 Player (which is an equivalent of the Freecom 35 Media Player - but be
aware that Mediagate firmware is unlikely to work on your Freecom player and
will invalidate your warranty if used! Nevertheless, the site has much detailed
information which applies to the Freecom 35 Player also. Probably not a site
for the relative beginner or newbie.
http://www.todomediaplayer.com/dload.php?action=file&file_id=13 - A useful
Forum-type site (mostly in Spanish, but with some English pages) covering
all types of Media Player. relatively new, so a bit short on content so far,
but a good source for older (and current) versions of firmware.
http://www.airlinktek.com/english/atboard.php?param=e_sw - Al Tech is the
company who actually make the Freecom and MediagatePlayers - and they are
also usually first to post new firmware (including beta versions) - but see
the warning re your warranty above!. Quite a good Forum, with some very knowledgeable
members. Incidentally - when folk moan about Freecom being slow to release
new firmware, it's actually Al Tech who produce it for Freecom.
http://www.convar.com/ - site for the PC Inspector software, which can be
invaluable if you've lost data or can't access a drive.
http://officerecovery.com - home of a freeware programme - FreeUndelete -
which can be suprisingly effective at recovering accidentally deleted files
- or even files you did intend to delete!
http://www.distrowatch.com/ - The place to go if you are thinking about taking
the plunge and trying out Linux - lots of advice about which version of Linux
to go for. Linux is now very simple to install and try, free of charge and
every bit as good as Windows - some would argue much better..... Also worth
visiting if you are trying to recover data from a drive as Linux can often
access files when Windows can't (but it is a bit technica to use it to recover
datal, so read my external drives pages first!).
http://daltrey.org/linux/cypress.html - if you encounter an error message
mentioning "cypress" with your external drive, this is the place
to go.
http://www.freeview.co.uk/home and http://www.ukfree.tv/ are sites to check
for information about digital and freeview TV, including whether you can receive
it in your area. The latter site has very detailed information - extremely
useful but possibly a bit technical for some.
http://www.dvd-recordable.org/Reviews%2Bindex-req-showcontent-id-196.phtml
- an excellent site for a review of the Freecom 350 Media Player and a lot
more. The site describes itself as "The Home of DVD Authoring, Writing
and Backup" and is clearly written by someone (called "Flash")
who knows his stuff.
http://www.ximeta.com/ - the home of NDAS software. You can find version
updates here but be aware that not all of these work with Freecom products
- you should, however, find all the NDAS updates you need on the Freecom support
site. Nevertheless the Ximeta site has a small amount of useful information
about NDAS.
